Geography
What is the vision for Geography?
At Minworth Junior and Infant School, we want to equip children with the necessary knowledge and skills they need to become confident and enthused geographers. We strive to develop children’s curiosity and fascination of the world and its people. Geography provides a purposeful means of exploring, appreciating and understanding the world we live in. The topics taught will equip children with the knowledge of their local area and the wider word whilst ensuring they have the skills needed to complete practical activities. We achieve this through a mix of classroom based lessons, outdoor fieldwork and educational visits.
How do we ensure it?
Geography should enable children to develop a broad understanding of the world we live in. Through a balanced curriculum of knowledge and skill, children can develop their skills and passion through completing bi-termly, well-sequenced units of work and having access to quality resources. Children will also be able to present their findings in various ways and become confident researchers and presenters. The knowledge and skill achieved by all will be assessed within lessons but also at the end of each unit of work to ensure all learners keep up with our curriculum.
As Geographers, children will learn a range of key vocabulary relating to the local and world geography as well as a knowledge of key places and how this compares to where they live.
