What is the vision for Science?

At Minworth, we provide a Science curriculum which enables children to explore and discover the world around them confidently, so that they have a deeper understanding of the world we live in. To achieve this, children are provided with practical, hands on experiences that encourage curiosity and  allow them to work scientifically. Through scientific enquiry, children make observations over time, problem solve, identify patterns, conduct fair tests, identify, classify and undertake research which equips them with the necessary skills to be competent and confident learners in Science. Children build on topics as they move from KS1 into KS2 and talk inquisitively about their Science work.  Children ask questions and teaching enables them to secure and extend their scientific knowledge and vocabulary. Within each year, children are given the chance to learn about sustainability.  From plastic pollution to food waste and deforestation, children at Minworth are conscientious members of the wider community and world.

How do we ensure it?

Our Science approach builds upon the foundations of the White Rose Science Scheme, which allows children’s to focus on scientific enquiry and thinking scientifically.   We believe that all these opportunities will ensure that our children are confident, life-long learners who leave us at the end of Year 6 with the knowledge and skills necessary for secondary Science and who will continue to explore the world around them as they grow.
